Wait a minute, darlings – what’s going on?
I go to www.allyobrien.com, and I find a web site for this bestselling male suspense author. Well, all right, he’s dashing with that boyish charm of his, but he doesn’t look anything at all like an Ally O’Brien.
Did I hit the Cosmopolitans a little too hard last night? Where’s this snarky Ally character who wrote THE AGENCY?
Never fear, you’ve come to the right place. Ally’s right here in all her dual-identity, gender-bending glory.
Here’s the story: Ally O’Brien is the pseudonym for a writing duo that includes Brian Freeman and his London-based entertainment agent, Ali Gunn. Ali, Brian...Ally O’Brien. Get it?
A few years ago, Ali approached Brian about writing a chick-lit book based inside the crazy world of London publishing. Ali has lived that world inside and out, but she’s not a writer. Brian’s a writer, but well, he’s not a chick. No matter. The two of them put their heads together, and THE AGENCY was born. It was released in 2009 to glowing reviews in national publications like PEOPLE, Entertainment Weekly, Romantic Times, and OK! “A delicious mash-up of chick-lit and thriller,” one critic called it.
So why the pseudonym? Just look around. Brian’s psychological suspense novels are dark and twisty, whereas “Ally’s” books are light, funny, and sarcastic. The two couldn’t be more different. So Brian and Ali both decided that their new joint series would need a new author name.
Despite the identity crisis, you can write to Brian or join the mailing list – and you’ll get notices about upcoming books by Ally O’Brien. Yes, Brian and Ali are working on a new book right now. Meanwhile, if you love good story-telling – fast-paced and emotionally intense – check out Brian’s suspense novels, too. It’s like getting two authors for the price of...uh...two.
